OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and AIRPPU Launch AI Initiative for Ukrainian Media

OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and the Association of Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine (AIRPPU) announced a joint initiative on September 7, 2026, to support Ukrainian news publishers. The programme aims to assist news organisations in building practical artificial intelligence capabilities and accelerating innovation across editorial, commercial, and operational workflows.

The initiative comprises two main components: the Newsroom AI Masterclass Series and the Newsroom AI Catalyst. The Masterclass Series began on August 5, 2026, bringing together international experts to share knowledge on editorial workflows, audience engagement, product development, revenue generation, and responsible AI adoption.

The Newsroom AI Catalyst is scheduled to launch on September 17, 2026. It will provide hands-on support to ten participating Ukrainian news organisations to help them identify use cases, create implementation roadmaps, and pilot tailored AI solutions. All participating organisations will also receive credits to OpenAI’s API to build bespoke newsroom tools.
