OpenAI and Poland’s NASK National Research Institute have signed an agreement to explore collaboration on AI safety, security and technical research.

Radosław Nielek, Director of NASK, stated that active cooperation between public AI Safety Institutes and frontier developers is necessary to ensure AI becomes reliable and safe. Tom Duff Gordon, VP and Head of EMEA Policy at OpenAI, cited Poland's scientific and technical talent, noting that Polish scientists have helped lead research at OpenAI.

This effort builds on prior technical collaboration between OpenAI and Polish cyber defenders. In July, CERT Polska, which operates within NASK, gained access to OpenAI’s cyber capable models through Daybreak. Using these models, the CERT Polska team discovered six vulnerabilities in MikroTik RouterOS, including flaws that could be combined to take control of affected devices without authentication. The vendor released fixes, and CERT Polska confirmed the patches prevented the observed attacks.
