Moonshot Sunsets Older Kimi Models on 31 August

Moonshot AI is retiring its older model line-up. kimi-k2.5 and the moonshot-v1 series are no longer available to newly registered users, and the platform sunset completes on 31 August 2026. If you have integrations pinned to either, you have days rather than weeks.

That leaves Kimi K3 as Moonshot's primary offering. K3 was released in July 2026 with 2.8 trillion parameters and open weights, alongside open-sourced infrastructure. Moonshot reported frontier-level performance across its own evaluation suite while acknowledging it trails the strongest proprietary models, naming Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol.

Kimi K3 is already the roster entry on our site, so no migration is needed on our side. This item exists because the sunset date is actionable: any code still calling moonshot-v1 or kimi-k2.5 needs to move to K3 before the end of the month.
