OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September 2026, the first model in its sixth generation. OpenAI's model documentation gives the id as gpt-6-astra, with a 1,050,000 token context window, 128,000 maximum output tokens, and a knowledge cutoff of 30 April 2026. It takes text and image input and returns text.
Pricing is $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. GPT-5.6 Sol, the model it replaces at the top of the lineup, is priced at 40% of that.
OpenAI describes the model as rolling out first to enterprises in its Trusted Access Program, with the API, ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers following in the days after. Some coverage of the launch has referred to that early-access programme under a different name; the figure and the programme name used here are the ones on OpenAI's own documentation.
On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.1.1, GPT-6 Astra scores 61 at max effort, level with GPT-5.6 Sol. Artificial Analysis also lists a non-reasoning variant at 55.
