Grok 4.5 Explained: Price, Specs and How It Compares

In short: Grok 4.5 is an AI model from xAI, released on 16 July 2026 and described in xAI's documentation as an "intelligent coding model for agentic software, engineering, and workflow tasks". It costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output for prompts under 200,000 tokens, and double that at or above 200,000. It has a 500K-token context window and reads text and images. It is still listed in xAI's API after the later Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7.
What is Grok 4.5?
Grok 4.5 is a large language model in xAI's Grok family, available through the xAI API and the Grok apps. xAI's model page says it was trained in xAI's Memphis data centres with new datasets spanning science, engineering and maths. The API model name is grok-4.5, with the aliases grok-4.5-latest and grok-build-latest.

Is Grok 4.5 still available?
Yes. xAI's models and pricing page still lists grok-4.5 with its prices, alongside Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7. xAI's own guidance on that page says to use Grok 4.7 for code and chat, calling it "the most capable model we've built".
How much does Grok 4.5 cost?
The price doubles once a prompt reaches 200,000 tokens, and the higher rate then applies to every token in that request. From xAI's model page:
| Per 1M tokens | Prompt under 200k tokens | Prompt 200k tokens or more |
|---|---|---|
| Input | $2 | $4.00 |
| Cached input | $0.30 | $0.60 |
| Output | $6 | $12.00 |
The context window is 500,000 tokens, so the higher rate covers every prompt between 200,000 and 500,000 tokens. Grok 4.5 does not support xAI's Batch API.
What are Grok 4.5's specs?

xAI's documentation does not list a maximum output length for Grok 4.5.
How does Grok 4.5 compare with Grok 4.6 and 4.7?
All three share the same 500,000-token window and the same input and output prices; Grok 4.6 and 4.7 charge more for cached input.
| Per 1M tokens, prompt under 200k | Grok 4.5 | Grok 4.6 | Grok 4.7 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Input | $2 | $2 | $2 |
| Cached input | $0.30 | $0.50 | $0.50 |
| Output | $6 | $6 | $6 |
How does Grok 4.5 rank?
On LMArena's text leaderboard Grok 4.5 has 1465 Elo (rank 53). Grok 4.6 has 1455 Elo (rank 72, high effort) and Grok 4.7 has 1441 Elo (rank 96, xhigh effort). The full ranked table is on our benchmarks page.
Words to know
- Long-context pricing - a higher rate for requests whose prompt passes a size threshold.
- Cached input - repeated input billed at a lower rate.
- Reasoning effort - how much the model thinks before answering.
- Alias - a second name that points to the same model.
- Rate limit - the most requests or tokens an account can send in a period.

Frequently asked questions
Is Grok 4.5 still available?+
Yes. xAI's models and pricing page still lists Grok 4.5 as grok-4.5, alongside the later Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7.
How much does Grok 4.5 cost?+
For prompts under 200,000 tokens it costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. Once a prompt reaches 200,000 tokens, the whole request is billed at $4 input and $12 output.
What is Grok 4.5's context window?+
Grok 4.5 has a 500,000-token context window and accepts text and image input.
Does Grok 4.5 support reasoning?+
Yes. It supports reasoning efforts low, medium, high and xhigh, with high as the default.
What is the difference between Grok 4.5 and Grok 4.6?+
They have the same context window, input and output prices and reasoning settings. Grok 4.6's cached input costs $0.50 per million tokens against Grok 4.5's $0.30, and xAI describes Grok 4.6 as a frontier model for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work.
