Anthropic's first Claude 5.5 model, released 22 September 2026 as claude-opus-5-5. Anthropic describes it as built for long-running agentic coding and knowledge work, and states it costs 40% less to run than Claude Opus 5 on typical workloads. It takes text and image input and returns text, with a 1M token context window, 128K maximum output and a June 2026 knowledge cutoff. Adaptive thinking is always on and cannot be disabled; thinking depth is set with the effort parameter, which defaults to medium. Available on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. Anthropic says Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 will follow.
