OpenAI announced more than 20 updates at DevDay 2026 on September 29, spanning ChatGPT, Codex, its models, and developer tools. The central theme was AI that can take on continuing work, rather than respond only to individual prompts, according to OpenAI’s event recap.

Dots take on ongoing work The largest new product announcement was Dots, OpenAI’s always-on agents. A Dot can work on a user’s behalf over time, using connected tools and its own cloud computer to carry out tasks. OpenAI says users can inspect its work and give feedback as it proceeds. Dots are available to Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare users can try a beta when their workspace administrator enables it; that beta is off by default. OpenAI has published a separate explanation of Dots for readers who want the details.

A new model and more ways to use Codex OpenAI also introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, which it describes as an upgrade for agentic coding, computer use, and professional tasks. The company says it approaches GPT-6 Astra’s performance at lower standard input and output token prices. GPT-6.1 Sol is available through the API and to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users. For developers, DevDay brought cloud-based Codex work, updates to the Codex CLI, and computer-use support in the Agents API. OpenAI also announced an Ultrafast speed tier, initially available for GPT-6 Astra in the API and on specified higher-tier ChatGPT Work and Codex plans; GPT-6.1 Sol support is planned for later.

ChatGPT becomes a broader workspace Beyond models and agents, OpenAI announced plugin extensions, ChatGPT Space, collaborative Pages, and additional ways for teams to share work. It also described integrations that bring ChatGPT into Slack and Microsoft Teams.

Availability differs across these announcements, so readers should check the DevDay recap before assuming a feature is included in their plan. The event’s broader direction is clear: OpenAI is connecting models, agents, developer tools, and shared workspaces so tasks can continue across apps and people.
