OpenAI Academy Marks Two Years With New Trainer Program

OpenAI has published an update detailing two years of OpenAI Academy training programs since launching in September 2024. Over the past two years, the Academy has hosted more than 250 events, with more than 4 million people engaging with its content.

The training initiative has provided practical instruction for tasks ranging from teaching and small business operations to software development. Programs have included self-paced courses, practical guides, in-person workshops, and multi-site AI Skills Jams. For example, an AI Skills Jam for K–12 Educators brought together more than 1,600 teachers, administrators, and district leaders across eight U.S. cities.

This month, OpenAI introduced new Academy learning paths for knowledge workers, developers, leaders, educators, and college students, allowing learners to earn course badges by passing assessments.

To scale these efforts, the organization is launching the OpenAI Academy Community Trainer Program pilot. The program prepares staff members from partner organizations, including schools, workforce groups, small-business networks, and community organizations, to teach Academy material and guide practical workshops in their local areas. Participants must complete training and a facilitation assessment before leading sessions.
