Anthropic Launches Life Sciences Verification Program in Beta

On Sep 17, 2026, Anthropic announced the Life Sciences Verification Program (LSVP) in beta, giving life science professionals access to the Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models with safeguards adjusted for biology-related tasks.

The program supports work in drug discovery, research biology, clinical development, and manufacturing. Applicants undergo a verification process reviewing research credentials, security standards, and ethical oversight. Once verified, teams apply for either Standard Use or High-risk Use grants.

Standard Use grants are renewed once a year and apply to Mythos 5.1, Opus 5, and Sonnet 5, as well as future models. High-risk Use grants remove safeguards that block life sciences requests, apply to single research projects rather than full teams, and require renewal every six months. High-risk grants for Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5 are available, while High-risk grants for Claude Mythos remain limited to a small set of entities with additional vetting during the launch.

LSVP traffic requires 30 days of data retention to support offline monitoring, which replaces real-time blocking for flagged activity. The program is available in Anthropic's first-party console for API usage, and in Claude for Enterprise and Team plans.
